[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 31st regarding the proposal from his opponent Yoon Seok-yeol of the People Power Party to hold a one-on-one debate over the ‘Daejang-dong scandal’ that “Would they really propose a negative campaign?” and added, “I want to believe that is not the case.”

On the afternoon of the same day, Lee met with reporters at the Yeouido party office and said, “(Through the debate) we want to verify how to run the country and whether we have the capability to improve the lives of the people, but is it a policy debate if it is only about negativity aimed at blaming someone for a specific past issue?”

He said, “I believe this is not the official position of candidate Yoon or his campaign team. How could they make such a proposal in front of the people?” and “Since I think it is not true, I will express my position once it is confirmed.”

He continued, “I think it is not true, and I want to believe it is not true,” and questioned, “Would they really have made such a proposal?”
