The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 30th that it has selected a total of four locations?Boeun-gun in Chungbuk, Jangsu-gun in Jeonbuk, Wando-gun in Jeonnam, and Hapcheon-gun in Gyeongnam?as project sites for the 'Senior Welfare Housing' initiative. Additionally, two locations in Jeoryang-myeon and Imgye-myeon of Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon, were selected as sites for the Village Maintenance-Type Public Housing Project.
Senior Welfare Housing is public rental housing that provides both rental housing and care services to support the residential welfare of the elderly. A total of 399 households will be supplied: 80 households in Boeun-gun, Chungbuk; 100 households in Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk; 103 households in Wando-gun, Jeonnam; and 116 households in Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam.
All four selected locations have a high demand for elderly housing, with aging rates ranging from 33% to 41%, which is about twice the national average of 17%. Specialized welfare facilities for the elderly, such as senior cafes, rooftop gardens, physical therapy rooms, and senior dining halls, will be installed in these areas.
Boeun-gun and Wando-gun are expected to create new models of senior welfare housing by linking with the beautiful surrounding natural landscapes such as Sogrisan and Dadohaehaesang National Parks.
The Village Maintenance-Type Public Housing Project focuses on relatively underserved small and medium-sized local cities and eup/myeon areas, providing public rental housing suitable for local demand along with neighborhood regeneration through surrounding area maintenance plans.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, after comprehensive review, selected Jeoryang-myeon (40 units) and Imgye-myeon (70 units) in Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon.
The selected local governments will enter the project implementation phase, including approval of public housing construction plans, after negotiating specific details such as project cost sharing with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), the project executor.
Kim Hongmok, Director of Housing Welfare Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "Through this public contest for Senior Welfare Housing and Village Maintenance-Type Public Housing, residents in areas previously underserved by public rental housing will be able to enjoy more comfortable and stable living conditions and welfare services."
