Ryukyung-gi Jungnang-gu Mayor's Morning 'Alley Cleaning' Finally Reaches 100th Session!

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Ryoo Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, marked the 100th alley cleaning event with residents on the 29th.

Mayor Ryoo began early morning alley cleaning with about 10 sanitation workers around Mangu Station right after his inauguration on July 12, 2018, and has steadily continued the activity with residents.

The 100th alley cleaning was participated by the autonomous cleaning teams of Myeonmok 4-dong residents, ‘Rangrang-i Cleaning Team’ and ‘Myeonsarang Cleaning Team.’ The residents who participated on this day swept every corner of the 750-meter alley starting from Saemteo Children's Park, passing through the school route of Junggok Elementary School, and along Myeonmok-ro 21-gil, sharing their sense of fulfillment and reflections.

"As we clean the alleys where our families and neighbors live together, our attachment to the community grows, and the bonds among residents deepen."

This was the remark of Mr. Kim from the Rangrang-i Cleaning Team who participated in the alley cleaning. Despite many difficulties due to COVID-19, the consistent efforts to create ‘THE Clean Jungnang’ have led to the 100th alley cleaning event, with a total of 2,814 participants and a cleaning distance reaching 86.006 km.

Mayor Ryoo Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “Although I feel somewhat tired after cleaning the alleys with local residents, I feel truly refreshed by the clean streets,” and added, “We will continue to work with residents to make Jungnang-gu the cleanest district among Seoul’s autonomous districts.”

This year, each neighborhood community center carried out special projects to eradicate illegal dumping. Fun and unique ideas such as the Cleanliness Weather Board, Conscience Mirrors, and nets to catch illegal dumping contributed to keeping various parts of the area clean. Going forward, the district office plans to spread the atmosphere so that residents themselves create a clean and pleasant community, and will continuously expand cleaning job projects for clean alleys.
