[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 24th regarding the special pardon of former President Park Geun-hye, "I thought it might be overlooked this time, but it seems a decision has been made."
On the same day, Song appeared on KBS 1TV's 'Sasa Geongeon' in the afternoon and said, "It seems the president made a lonely decision," adding, "I also found out around 9 a.m. this morning after receiving a call from Lee Cheol-hee, the senior secretary for political affairs."
Regarding the timing of former President Park's pardon being set for the New Year, he guessed, "The Blue House must have considered various factors," and "They probably reviewed her medical condition as well." He added, "As the party leader, I respect President Moon's decision made after much deliberation."
Regarding the exclusion of former President Lee Myung-bak from the pardon, he was reserved, saying, "It's difficult for me to comment on that."
