Jeju Police Agency Implements Special Amnesty for Administrative Penalties on Driver's Licenses

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Police Agency announced on the 24th that it will implement the ‘2022 Special Administrative Disposition Reduction for Driver’s Licenses’ as of 0:00 on the 31st.

The purpose of this reduction is to alleviate the burden on ordinary citizens, such as livelihood drivers who are struggling due to administrative sanctions on their driver’s licenses, and to provide an opportunity for early return to economic activities.

The reduction target period is from November 1 of last year, immediately following the reference period for the ‘2021 Special Administrative Disposition Reduction for Driver’s Licenses’ (October 1, 2019 to October 31, 2020), until October 31 of this year.

During this period, a total of 40,707 individuals in Jeju who were subject to driver’s license penalty points due to traffic law violations and traffic accidents, those undergoing license suspension or cancellation procedures, and those in the license acquisition restriction period (disqualification period) are eligible for the reduction.

With this special reduction, all penalty points imposed on 37,106 people in the province will be deleted.

Among those currently under driver’s license suspension or undergoing suspension procedures, 188 people will have the remaining suspension period exempted or the suspension procedure halted, allowing them to drive immediately from the 31st.

Additionally, two people undergoing driver’s license cancellation procedures will have the execution suspended and will be able to drive immediately, and 3,411 people in the disqualification period will be granted the benefit of immediate eligibility to take the driver’s license test due to the lifting of the disqualification period.

However, even first-time offenders of drunk driving are excluded from the special reduction due to the risk and potential social condemnation, and drivers who caused fatal traffic accidents are also excluded to raise awareness and for prevention purposes.

Furthermore, those who committed serious traffic violations such as hit-and-run after a traffic accident (with casualties), reckless or retaliatory driving, drug driving, vehicle-related crimes, obtaining a license fraudulently or falsely, vehicle theft or robbery, assault on police officers during enforcement, and those who have received reductions within the past three years as of the implementation date are also excluded from the target.

Those who are exempted from driver’s license cancellation and those exempted from suspension due to joint risk behavior and causing traffic accidents must complete six hours of traffic safety education conducted by the Road Traffic Authority by February 3 of next year.

Those subject to withdrawal of driver’s license suspension or cancellation will be individually notified by mail, but penalty point deletions and disqualification lifts must be checked individually.

Special reduction confirmation is available after identity verification on the Police Agency website and Police Agency Traffic Civil Complaints 24.

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, confirmation is also possible after identity verification via the Police Civil Complaints Call Center using a mobile phone registered under the individual’s name, or the individual can visit their local police station to check in person.

Driver’s license suspension and cancellation special reductions allow individuals to collect their driver’s licenses at their local police station starting today, but actual driving is permitted only after 0:00 on the 31st.
