He said, "I will not make a political evaluation of (former President Park)," but added, "Former President Park exceptionally served a long prison term as a former president and has now been pardoned and reinstated." He continued, "I think this will serve as an opportunity to engrain that the strict legal principles applied to former President Park can be strongly applied to all politicians in the future."
He apologized, saying, "Once again, as party leader, I feel sorry that the state corruption scandal during former President Park's administration caused great disappointment to the people, and that at that time, our party's predecessor, the Saenuri Party, failed to sufficiently perform its legislative check-and-balance role."
Lee added, "Due to my personal connection with former President Park, I have many concerns about her health," and said, "If circumstances allow, I plan to communicate with people close to former President Park to understand her health condition."
