[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Kakao Pay announced on the 24th that it has significantly expanded offline payment locations such as hotels, department stores, and shopping malls in time for the year-end and New Year holiday season. Now, payments through Kakao Pay will be available at top domestic and international brands including Chosun Hotel & Resort, Galleria Department Store, and IKEA.
First, Kakao Pay offline payments have been introduced at the front desks and food and beverage venues of nine Chosun Hotel & Resort locations nationwide, including the recently opened "Chosun Palace Seoul Gangnam, a Luxury Collection Hotel." This means Kakao Pay can now be used at all Chosun Hotel & Resort branches for rooms and F&B, as well as at representative hotels in Seoul and Busan such as "The Westin Chosun Seoul and Busan," "Grand Chosun Busan and Jeju," boutique hotel "L'Escape," lifestyle hotel "Gravity Seoul Pangyo, Autograph Collection," and business hotels "Four Points by Sheraton Chosun Seoul Station and Myeongdong." Starting from the 28th of this month, a limited-time special room rate promotion will be held for Kakao Pay payments at Chosun Hotel & Resort. Reservations can be made by phone through each hotel's room reservation department, and stays will be available from the 2nd of next month.
Kakao Pay offline payments are now also available at all branches of Galleria Department Store, a leader among luxury brand department stores nationwide. Until January 9th, among users who pay 100,000 KRW or more with Kakao Pay at Galleria Department Store, the first 4,000 customers will receive a 5,000 KRW gift certificate as part of a promotional event.
With the introduction of Kakao Pay offline payments, customers at Chosun Hotel & Resort and Galleria Department Store can quickly and conveniently join memberships and enjoy reward benefits simultaneously with payment, without the hassle of additional apps or entering phone numbers. The seamless integration of Kakao Pay offline payment, membership registration, and automatic rewards has already received positive responses at Shinsegae Department Store, Starfield, Shinsegae Premium Outlets, and Starbucks.
Global home furnishing brand IKEA has also adopted Kakao Pay offline payments to provide customers with a better payment experience and convenience, in line with its company vision of "creating a better everyday life for many people." Kakao Pay can be used for payments across various sectors in IKEA stores, and payments are completed simply by scanning a barcode on the provided payment terminal without the hassle of inserting and removing cards.
Kakao Pay stated, "In preparation for the busy year-end and New Year holidays, we have expanded payment locations so that many users can enjoy hotels and shopping more comfortably," adding, "We hope you experience the convenience of Kakao Pay offline payments, where the entire payment process is completed with just one barcode scan."
