Kiturami, Boiler Manufacturer's Guide to 'Preventing Boiler Freezing Accidents'

Boiler freezing accidents mainly occur in pipes; wrap them with insulation to prevent freezing
Keep the power connected for the 'freeze prevention function' to operate, and keep all gas and distributor pipes open

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Kiturami Co., Ltd. introduced the 'Winter Boiler Freezing Accident Prevention Methods' that consumers can practice in daily life, as the risk of boiler freezing accidents increases with the cold wave bringing temperatures around minus 10 degrees Celsius this weekend.

Kiturami emphasized that most boiler-related freezing accidents occur in the water-flowing pipe sections and that these pipe sections should be thoroughly wrapped with insulation material.

Boilers are connected to direct water pipes, heating water pipes, and hot water pipes, and in the case of condensing boilers, condensate pipes are additionally installed. All pipes should be wrapped with insulation material, and even if insulation work has already been done, it is recommended to replace it with new material if the condition is poor.

Also, until February when subzero temperatures continue, the boiler power should always be kept on so that the built-in 'freeze prevention function' can operate normally, and the gas valve and distributor valve should be kept open.

In the case of Kiturami boilers, a 'two-stage freeze prevention function' is built in: when the heating water temperature drops below 8℃, the first stage activates the circulation pump to circulate water, and when it drops below 5℃, the second stage activates heating to prevent the boiler from freezing.

Furthermore, instead of turning off the boiler when going out, setting the indoor temperature to 10?15℃ or using the outing mode (minimum temperature maintenance) or reservation mode (operation/stop time setting) can prevent freezing accidents while reducing heating costs.

If a freezing accident has already occurred, refer to the 'symptom-specific action guidelines' provided by Kiturami.

△ When the boiler operates but no hot water comes out = This symptom occurs when the direct water pipe or hot water pipe connected to the boiler is frozen. Remove the insulation material wrapping the frozen pipe and repeatedly wrap it with a warm towel at about 50?60℃ to thaw it. When using a heater or heating wire, there is a fire risk, so the worker must always supervise the process.

△ When cold water does not come out = This occurs when the water supply is cut off due to freezing of the water pipes and water meter. If the water meter is frozen and damaged, report it to the local city or county water office, and if valves or pipes are frozen, contact the management office or a professional equipment company for assistance.

△ When the floor remains cold despite heating = It is highly likely that the boiler interior or heating pipes are frozen. This is difficult to handle by oneself, so contact the Kiturami Boiler Customer Center (1588-9000) or the respective manufacturer for assistance.

△ When expert help for pipe equipment is needed = Using the Korea Thermal Management Construction Association and the National Boiler Equipment Association, which have experts with boiler equipment certifications, allows you to receive safe services at reasonable prices.

Kiturami has produced videos related to 'freeze prevention methods and symptom-specific action guidelines' to help users understand and provides them through the 'Kiturami Boiler KakaoTalk AS Reception Service.' This service can be used by searching for Kiturami Boiler in the KakaoTalk search bar and adding it as a Plus Friend.

Kiturami emphasized that every winter, customers suffer damages such as 'excessive repair cost charges' and 'insufficient after-sales management' when using private repair companies, urging consumers to be especially cautious.

Paid services received from private repair companies registered under manufacturer names such as Kiturami Boiler on the '114 number information service' or portal sites are not protected by the manufacturer, so to prevent consumer damage, it is requested to use official service centers operated by each manufacturer such as Kiturami Boiler.

A Kiturami official said, "With more time spent indoors due to COVID-19, preventing winter boiler freezing accidents has become more important than ever," and added, "We hope everyone stays warm and safe this winter by referring to the boiler freezing accident prevention methods provided by Kiturami."
