[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] On the 20th, the spread of COVID-19 showed no signs of slowing down, with confirmed cases continuing to emerge nationwide.


According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on the same day, a total of 3,286 people tested positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide. This is 175 fewer than the 3,461 cases recorded during the same time frame the previous day, but 32 more than the 3,318 cases recorded at the same time one week earlier on the 13th.


Since the tally is conducted until midnight, the number of new confirmed cases announced as of 0:00 on the 21st is expected to increase further.


New confirmed cases were 2,121 (64.5%) in the metropolitan area and 1,165 (35.5%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers were: Seoul 1,030, Gyeonggi 736, Incheon 355, Busan 227, Gyeongnam 156, Daegu 119, Chungnam 113, Gangwon 102, Gyeongbuk 101, Daejeon 89, Chungbuk 72, Gwangju 58, Jeonbuk 56, Jeonnam 30, Jeju 26, Ulsan 9, and Sejong 7. Confirmed cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces.


The number of new confirmed cases over the past week (12.14?20) were recorded daily as 5,567 → 7,850 → 7,621 → 7,434 → 7,312 → 6,236 → 5,318, averaging 6,763 cases per day.
