[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Shin Ji-ye, the representative of the Korean Women's Political Network, has joined the New Era Preparation Committee (Saesidaewi), a direct organization under Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, as the senior vice chairman. However, internal opposition within the party continues on the 20th. Representative Hong Joon-pyo criticized it as a "mixed rice," and Representative Ha Tae-kyung also pointed out that it is "worrisome."
On the same day, Representative Hong, when asked "Shin Ji-ye has come. What do you think?" in the 'Cheongmun Hongdap' (Hong Joon-pyo answers the concerns of youth) of the youth community 'Youth's Dream' he created, briefly replied, "There are people who look for mixed rice too." When another netizen asked, "Will recruiting Shin Ji-ye be a gain or a loss for Yoon Seok-yeol?" Representative Hong evaluated it as a "loss."
Meanwhile, Representative Ha also directly criticized through his Facebook, saying, "It is worrisome that Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign headquarters lightly views gender conflict. I oppose the recruitment of feminist Shin Ji-ye, who intensifies gender conflict."
He questioned, "The New Era Preparation Committee led by Chairman Kim Han-gil has recruited feminist representative Shin Ji-ye. Is it a very simple thought that adding feminism will resolve gender conflict and increase youth support?"
Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, attended the welcome ceremony for new recruits held on the 20th at the Chairman's Office of the New Era Preparation Committee at the Central Party Office in Yeouido, Seoul, and shook hands with Shin Ji-ye, the representative of the Korean Women's Political Network, a new recruit. He continued, "It is because they do not understand the seriousness of gender conflict well. Adults think that the gender conflict among children is like a candle that easily goes out with a single gust of wind. But gender conflict is not a candle; it is a forest fire," emphasizing, "Since wind has been blown into the forest fire, the conflict will not go out but will blaze even more."
Additionally, he said, "Currently, feminism has completely lost national consensus and has transformed into an anti-gender equality ideology," adding, "Correcting this extremism is the direction the party should take. Youth support will not suddenly revive just by adding a spoonful here and there like some recipe."
Meanwhile, Representative Lee Jun-seok, after a closed meeting of the campaign headquarters on the same day, responded to questions about this recruitment by saying, "I have no particular opinion."
He said, "Chairman Kim Han-gil inquired about this matter over the weekend. I will respect Chairman Kim's intentions regarding the work of the New Era Preparation Committee," but drew a line by saying, "However, like Professor Lee Soo-jung, if there are remarks that violate the party's basic policy, I will have no choice but to restrain and correct them."
