Olesen's Drunken Disorder and Sexual Assault Trial, Daily 'Original Troublemaker', Allenby Kidnapping Incident, Kim Bio's 'Finger Gesture'
Torbjørn Olesen recently faced the greatest crisis of his career as he stood trial for in-flight drunken disorder and sexual assault charges.
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] "Because of alcohol."
This is the story of Torbjørn Olesen (Denmark). He recently stood trial for an in-flight drinking disturbance and sexual assault charges from two years ago. In July 2019, on a flight from Nashville, USA to London, UK, after consuming alcohol and sleeping pills, he groped a woman's chest and urinated inappropriately. The first trial was held five months after the incident but was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19 and resumed after two years. Olesen denied the charges, saying, "I don't remember."
The sexual assault victim claimed, "He wrapped his right arm around my waist and touched my chest with his left hand." Ian Poulter (England), who was on the flight, testified, "He looked unwell and seemed to have drunk too much." Olesen is a player with 12 professional wins, including five on the European Tour. He gained recognition by participating in the 2018 Ryder Cup, a golf competition between the US and Europe, but damaged his image with this major incident.
John Daly is the original "troublemaker," having been involved in multiple divorces, gambling, and alcohol addiction controversies.
The original "troublemaker" is John Daly (USA). He quickly rose to world stardom by winning two majors: the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship, but when he fell into a slump, he would throw his club into a lake or quit rounds and go home if the game wasn’t going well. He also shot towards galleries and threw cameras. He has multiple divorces, struggled with alcoholism, and lost $55 million (65.1 billion KRW) gambling over 15 years starting in 1992.
In 2014, he caused controversy by showing a young female model holding a tee in her mouth while he took a drive shot. Robert Allenby (Australia) was jailed for causing a disturbance at a casino and posted photos of his bruised face on social media, falsely claiming he was kidnapped and assaulted. Sergio Garcia (Spain) also joined the "bad boy" ranks in February 2019 by damaging the green in five places with his putter on the third day of the European Tour Saudi International.
Danny Lee (New Zealand) turned into the "Hulk" at the US Open, a PGA Tour major, last September. On the 18th hole (par 4) of the third round, he made six putts from 1.2 meters, and after a bogey putt, he repeatedly tapped the ball and collapsed emotionally. After finishing with a quintuple bogey, he struck his golf bag with his putter in frustration and withdrew citing a "wrist injury." He was heavily criticized for "unprofessional behavior."
After causing a controversy by making an obscene finger gesture towards the gallery at the 2019 Daegu Gyeongbuk Open, Kim Bio knelt down and apologized.
Domestically, Kim Bi-o (31) caused a "middle finger controversy." During the final 4th round 16th hole (par 4) of the 2019 Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour Daegu Gyeongbuk Open, when a topping shot occurred due to the shutter sound of a mobile phone camera, he raised his middle finger toward the gallery. He later knelt down, cried, and apologized. After receiving a one-year suspension, he was specially pardoned last year and won the LG Signature Players Championship last month.
