[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] As global carbon neutrality becomes a hot topic, the volume of electric vehicle transactions is significantly increasing not only in the new car market but also in the used car market.
According to AJ Sellcar on the 18th, the volume of used electric vehicle transactions from January to November this year surged by 200% compared to the same period last year. In particular, compared to the first half of this year, the volume of used electric vehicle transactions from July to November increased by 43%, and compared to last year, it rose by 121%.
The average market price of all used electric vehicles also increased by about 38% compared to January. Including hybrid (HEV) used car prices, the price of eco-friendly vehicles rose by 43%.
As automakers launch new eco-friendly vehicles and consumer interest grows, the sales volume of eco-friendly vehicles in the used car market appears to have increased. According to the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, as of the third quarter of this year, electric vehicle sales reached 71,006 units, a 96% increase compared to 46,909 units last year. The proportion of electric vehicles among new cars sold domestically this year is 5.5%, which is about twice the level of the United States (2.3%), indicating an expansion of the domestic electric vehicle share.
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia sold 39,144 and 26,807 electric vehicles respectively from January to November this year, marking a sharp increase of 117.8% and 241% compared to the same period last year. It is analyzed that overall electric vehicle supply policies and plans to expand electric vehicle charging stations as part of achieving carbon neutrality have influenced the changes in sales volume.
AJ Sellcar analyzed a total of 541 electric vehicles through online and offline auctions from January to November this year, revealing that various electric vehicle models ranging from compact cars to trucks were listed, including the 'Ioniq Electric' (winning bid rate 48%), 'Tesla' (winning bid rate 8%), 'Bongo3 EV' (winning bid rate 25%), 'Niro EV' (winning bid rate 44%), and 'Ray EV' (winning bid rate 66%).
The SM3 Z.E., discontinued last year, was the most traded in the used car market due to difficulties in purchasing new cars. Following that, Hyundai's Bolt EV and Ioniq Electric ranked second and third. AJ Sellcar explained that especially the Ioniq and Kona EV recorded a 100% winning bid rate at offline auctions due to exports to Middle Eastern countries.
An In-sung, head of AJ Sellcar's online business division, said, "As the transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to eco-friendly electric vehicles accelerates, the position of electric vehicles is growing within the overall used car transaction volume at AJ Sellcar."
