[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The rapper Noel (21, real name Jang Yong-jun), who was indicted on charges of refusing a breathalyzer test and assaulting a police officer, has admitted to some charges, stating that he did drive under the influence without a license.

Jang's lawyer said on the 17th during the second trial for violations of the Road Traffic Act (unlicensed driving) and other charges, held under the presiding judge Shin Hyuk-jae of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 4, "We acknowledge the facts but will legally dispute the charges related to obstruction of official duties."

After the trial, the lawyer stated, "He generally admitted to the facts regarding unlicensed drunk driving," adding, "Regarding obstruction of official duties, there was no intent to commit the crime, and we are requesting the court to examine whether the injury charge is legally valid."

Jang is the son of Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party. On September 18th at around 10:30 PM, he was driving a Mercedes-Benz passenger car near Seongmo Hospital Intersection in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, when he caused a collision with another vehicle. He was arrested at the scene on charges of assaulting a police officer by headbutting after refusing the breathalyzer test requested by officers from the Seocho Police Station who had arrived at the scene.

Previously, in 2019, Jang was also indicted for driving under the influence and colliding with a motorcycle in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and in June last year, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation period.
