[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 17th that the ‘Soetbit Village Ribbon Project’ in the Gimcheon district was finally selected in the ‘2022 Urban Regeneration Preliminary Project Contest’ conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

This selection of the Gimcheon district urban regeneration preliminary project is another achievement following the selection of the Jukjeon district urban regeneration New Deal project and the Sangdong district urban regeneration recognized project in 2020.

Since April, the county has made preparations so that the Gimcheon district, where Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College, Geochang Culture Center, Geochang Cultural Center, and Geochang Museum are gathered, can be reborn as a cultural and educational cluster of Geochang through future urban regeneration projects.

Also, through resident participation programs such as the Urban Regeneration University, a project plan was derived including ▲ remodeling of resident hub spaces utilizing idle spaces ▲ creation of a field-customized specialized street leading to Geochang College ▲ operation of village community recovery programs through resident capacity building, and the project plan was submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in October.

Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, “With the selection of the Gimcheon district urban regeneration preliminary project, we have successfully taken the first step toward the urban regeneration New Deal project,” and added, “We will strive to ensure that the Gimcheon urban regeneration project proceeds without any setbacks.”
