[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] The police have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 20s who entered the home of child sex offender Jo Doo-soon (69) and struck Jo's head multiple times with a blunt weapon. The man was investigated and found to have committed the crime out of anger over Jo's past sex crimes.

On the 17th, the Ansan Danwon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A (21), who was caught in the act the previous day on charges of special assault.

Mr. A is accused of breaking into a multi-family house in Danwon-gu, Ansan City, Gyeonggi Province, where Jo lives, around 8:50 p.m. the previous day and hitting Jo's head several times with a blunt weapon.

Mr. A, a day laborer working at a logistics center, was investigated to have committed the crime after work out of anger over Jo's history of sex crimes by visiting Jo's residence.

At the time of the crime, Mr. A reportedly knocked on the front door pretending to be a police officer. When Jo opened the door, a verbal altercation ensued, and Mr. A swung the blunt weapon inside the house.

Immediately after the assault, Jo's wife, who was at the scene, ran about 20 meters to the nearby police security center to report the incident. Police officers who promptly responded subdued Mr. A, who was struggling with Jo, and arrested him on the spot.

Jo sustained a head injury and received hospital treatment but was confirmed not to have suffered serious injuries. Later that night, after being questioned as a victim, Jo met reporters outside the police station and said, "I'm sorry. It's all because of me."

During the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "I was angry about the sex crimes Jo committed and went to his house with the intention of scaring him. I don't clearly remember swinging the blunt weapon, but I was overwhelmed with anger as soon as I saw him."

Earlier, on February 9, Mr. A was also caught by the police while trying to enter Jo's residence carrying a bag with a weapon, intending to punish Jo. He was booked on charges including trespassing. At that time, Mr. A reportedly said, "Life has no meaning. I think punishing Jo Doo-soon will give my life value."

Meanwhile, Jo, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for child sexual assault, was released on December 12 last year after completing his sentence.
