President Moon: "Strengthening Energy and Rare Metal Cooperation with Uzbekistan"

Korea-Uzbekistan Summit... Uzbek President "Welcomes UN General Assembly Ceasefire Declaration Proposal"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 17th, President Moon Jae-in stated at the summit meeting with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, held at the Blue House, "We will strengthen health cooperation and further enhance cooperation in energy and rare metals," adding, "We will firmly join hands in future growth sectors such as climate change response, smart cities, smart farms, ICT, and electric vehicles."


President Moon explained, "The two countries are special strategic partners. We are engaged in various projects such as agricultural machinery, energy, plant and power plant construction, and 910 Korean companies in sectors like automobile parts, electronics, telecommunications, and finance have entered Uzbekistan. Negotiations for a trade agreement to expand trade and investment are also underway."


President Moon evaluated, "In January this year, the first summit was held with you via video conference, and now the last summit is being held face-to-face with you. It is very meaningful to start and end this year's summit diplomacy together with you."

President Moon said, "Congratulations on your overwhelming re-election in last October's presidential election. This is the result of the Uzbek people highly appreciating and supporting the achievements of the first term's economic reforms and external opening policies," and added, "I believe you will lead Uzbekistan to a higher leap for a new vision."


President Mirziyoyev stated, "Being with my Korean friends feels like being home. I sincerely pay my respects to you, Mr. President, and the Korean people, our brother nation. Uzbekistan holds special affection for Korea and the Korean people."


President Mirziyoyev said, "Uzbekistan unwaveringly supports your efforts and stance for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and welcomes your proposal at the UN General Assembly to promptly declare an end to the war."


President Mirziyoyev added, "Uzbekistan intends to develop mutually beneficial cooperation centered on the New Northern Policy."


Meanwhile, the Korea-Uzbekistan summit was also attended by Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance; Chung Eui-yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Moon Seung-wook, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Noh Hyung-wook, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Suh Hoon, Director of the National Security Office; Lee Ho-seung, Chief of Policy Office; and Kang Jae-kwon, Ambassador to Uzbekistan.
