[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jung] The number of people who have received the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has surpassed 10 million.
The COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced on the 17th at 11 a.m. that, based on provisional data, the number of people who have received the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has exceeded 10 million.
Currently, the cumulative number of third-dose recipients is 10,004,80, accounting for 19.5% of the population. As of the end of December, 37.8% of those eligible for the third dose based on the vaccination interval have completed it. Among those aged 60 and over, 51.2% of the population have completed the third dose.
The reservation rate is 38.0% of the total population and 70.1% of the population aged 60 and over. Since the vaccination interval was shortened from 4-5 months after the second dose to 3 months, the number of eligible individuals has increased, and the reservation rate is expected to accelerate accordingly.
Additionally, the Promotion Team stated that the participation of unvaccinated individuals aged 18 and over continues to increase.
In the fourth week of November (November 22?28), the total number of first-dose vaccinations among unvaccinated individuals aged 18 and over was 89,842, but the number recorded up to Thursday of the second week (December 13?16) increased to 164,906. Considering recent daily vaccination numbers, the number of vaccinations in the second week is expected to reach 200,000.
The Promotion Team expressed gratitude, saying, "We thank the public who trusted experts and the government and actively participated up to the third dose, as well as the new first-dose recipients," and added, "We also appreciate the cooperation of medical institutions that have worked hard to allow elderly individuals aged 60 and over to receive vaccinations on-site without prior reservations during the focused third-dose vaccination period in December."
Meanwhile, the Promotion Team requested that, considering the increase in vaccine recipients at medical institutions and the potential for congestion and confusion on-site, except for elderly individuals who have difficulty making online reservations, people should make prior reservations before visiting medical institutions for vaccination.
