[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Eexpert Consulting, KEPCO KDN, and 16 other private and public institutions received awards from the government as exemplary organizations for blind recruitment. They were recognized for properly evaluating job competencies rather than physical conditions, hometowns, or schools, thereby promoting a desirable recruitment culture.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea announced that on the 17th at 3 p.m., they held the '2021 Fair Recruitment and Blind Recruitment Best Practices Competition Awards Ceremony' at the Royal Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. Six private companies including Eexpert Consulting and 12 public institutions including KEPCO KDN were selected as awardees. Six government ministries including the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Human Resources Development Service, and the Korea Federation of SMEs participated in the awards ceremony.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor also introduced distinctive recruitment systems of the award-winning organizations. KEPCO KDN’s inclusion of external auditors or citizens directly in the recruitment process was a representative example. Korea Seven and others implemented job-related report screenings or conducted applicant self-PR interviews.

Since the joint announcement of the 'Blind Recruitment Guidelines' by related ministries in 2017, the government has mandated blind recruitment for all public institutions. In the private sector, the Anti-Corruption Policy Council’s 2019 announcement of the 'Establishment of Fair Recruitment in the Public Sector and Expansion to the Private Sector' supports the autonomous spread of a competency-based recruitment culture. A Ministry of Employment and Labor official explained, "The introduction of blind recruitment has improved recruitment fairness and shifted the hiring process to verify talents based on job competencies rather than personal attributes, resulting in higher acceptance rates of women and graduates from non-metropolitan universities."

Park Hwajin, Vice Minister of Employment and Labor, stated, "To increase young people’s perception of job opportunities, securing fairness in recruitment, the first step into society, is a crucial task. The government will continue to establish a blind recruitment system in the public sector and generously support the autonomous spread of a fair recruitment culture in the private sector."
