Drone Meets ICT... Meisa "Reducing Construction Site Costs and Duration"

"We will accelerate the digitalization of construction sites by utilizing drones and ICT technology."

Founded in November 2017, Meisa is a startup providing a construction drone data platform service. Its motto is to promote the era of smart construction based on information collected by drones. Initially, the company was engaged in anti-drone business to prevent terrorism and crime caused by drones, but later pivoted to developing specialized drone software for the construction sector.

Shin Seung-su, CEO of Meisa, said, "In 2018, I was in charge of anti-drone operations for the counter-terrorism team at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, but we quickly pivoted to developing software that can apply the advantages of drones to various fields."

Meisa's platform service is broadly divided into drone shooting and analysis, and data utilization. The core technology involves analyzing and combining photos taken by autonomous drones flying in the sky into 3D images, and utilizing the collected data.

CEO Shin said, "Drones can be deployed over wide construction sites that are hard to grasp at a glance, making it easy to understand the site," adding, "With an application linked to drones, autonomous flight along a predetermined route is possible." The advantage is that anyone can easily shoot drone footage just by learning how to operate autonomous drones. The 3D images captured this way are more accurate than satellite photos and are used in various areas such as heavy equipment movement and security.

CEO Shin explained, "Surveying work that costs tens of millions of won can be replaced by a single drone shoot, reducing costs and time," and added, "We also monitor the progress of the ever-changing construction site work in real time."

Meisa is collaborating with over 20 domestic construction companies, including POSCO Construction and Kolon Global, carrying out projects at more than 100 construction and civil engineering sites. Since they develop software specialized for the construction industry, they focus on understanding the needs of the field. Recently, they applied a field-centered UX (User Experience) to make the functions within the Meisa platform more intuitive.

CEO Shin said, "To spread smart construction, reliability in safety and technology is most important," and added, "We are focusing on enhancing technological capabilities to a level that clients can trust and entrust, thereby increasing productivity." Meisa, which has maintained growth since its early days, expects its sales this year to increase by 400% compared to last year.
