[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] A poll released on the 16th showed that in a multi-candidate race, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung and the People Power Party's candidate Yoon Seok-youl are engaged in a fierce contest within the margin of error.
According to a survey conducted by Next Research commissioned by SBS from the 14th to 15th, targeting 1,016 men and women nationwide aged 18 and over (quota sampling by gender, age, and region, followed by wired RDD and wireless virtual number extraction), using a mixed telephone interview method (87% wireless, 13% wired), candidate Lee's support rate recorded 35.4%, leading candidate Yoon's 33.3% by a margin of 2.1 percentage points within the margin of error.
Following were Justice Party candidate Sim Sang-jung at 3.5%, and People’s Party candidate Ahn Cheol-soo at 3.1%.
The period when the poll was conducted coincided with the controversy over Yoon candidate’s wife Kim Geon-hee’s 'false resume' allegations.
When asked which candidate is most likely to win regardless of their own support, candidate Lee Jae-myung was at 45.5%, candidate Yoon Seok-youl at 43.8%, followed by Ahn Cheol-soo at 0.6%, and Sim Sang-jung at 0.3%.
Regarding how much the spouse of a presidential candidate influences the choice of candidate, 60.4% answered 'influences,' while 38.1% answered 'does not influence.'
The margin of error for this poll is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, please refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
