[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Hong Joon-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, sharply criticized broadcaster Yoo Byung-jae on the online platform for youth 'Cheongnyeon-ui Kkum' (Youth's Dream), calling him "a truly mean person."
On the 14th, in response to a question from a young person on the 'Cheongmun Hongdap' (Youth Questions, Hong Answers) segment of Cheongnyeon-ui Kkum, asking, "Three years ago, I was surprised to see Yoo Byung-jae make sexually harassing remarks against you, Congressman Hong. Have you ever considered suing or pressing charges?" Hong replied in this manner.
The bad blood between Hong and Yoo began in 2018 when Yoo mentioned Hong during his stand-up comedy show. Yoo performed a joke responding to malicious comments directed at him in the 'B's Joke' stand-up comedy show.
He said, in response to a netizen's comment, "They say it's an R-rated show, but there's no adult content," "I have premature ejaculation. So at the climax, I imagine Hong Joon-pyo, then leader of the Liberty Korea Party, grooming the area around his mouth. That's the least sexy thought."
In response, in August 2019, Hong targeted Yoo on Facebook, saying, "Mindless, inconsiderate entertainers, who are packaged as so-called sensible entertainers, act as makeshift leftist vanguards whenever something happens," and criticized, "Why are they silent about the Cho Kuk incident? Hollywood entertainers' political participation at least had conviction and knowledge."
He continued, "Is there no one willing to eat cyanide? Why do those who say they are treating premature ejaculation hide and not come forward?" This was aimed at actress Kim Gyu-ri's 2008 Twitter post saying, "I'd rather put cyanide in my mouth than eat American beef," as well as Yoo's remarks.
Hong added, "If you treat the public like fools and incite them, you will surely be punished," and "The day will come when you understand the meaning of 'Shin Sang Pil Beol' (信賞必罰: rewarding those who deserve it and punishing those who commit crimes)."
