[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics appears to be preparing a new wireless charger capable of providing 25-watt (W) fast wireless charging for its flagship smartphone series, the Galaxy S22, expected to be released early next year.
On the 14th (local time), IT media outlet PhoneArena reported that Samsung Electronics may unveil a new wireless charger to coincide with the launch of the S22.
According to reports, Samsung Electronics seems to have submitted certification documents related to a 25W wireless charging pad to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC is the official regulatory agency for all radio, TV, wired, cable, and satellite communications in the U.S., and mobile devices must obtain FCC certification to be sold in the U.S.
PhoneArena speculated that the new wireless charger (model number EP-P2400) is designed with the S22 series, expected to launch between January and February next year, in mind and is expected to support up to 25W. Currently, the Galaxy S21 supports 15W wireless charging, and the top-tier model, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, supports 25W wired charging speeds.
The new wireless charger is expected to be released in a compact size with rounded square corners and appears to support wireless charging not only for smartphones but also for wireless earphones and smartwatches. However, unlike Samsung’s currently sold products such as the Wireless Charger Duo and Wireless Charger Trio, it is expected to be an entry-level product that can charge only one device at a time, not multiple devices simultaneously.
Meanwhile, the S22 series is expected to be equipped with Qualcomm’s recently unveiled Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Samsung’s Exynos 2200 as application processors (AP). The standard and Plus models will come with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal memory, available in four colors: Pink Gold, Green, Black, and White. The Ultra or Note models will be divided into 12GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB internal memory, and 16GB RAM with 512GB internal memory models. The colors for these models will be Dark Red, Black, and Red.
