[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Lee Jeongin (18), a high school senior and member of the Democratic Party of Korea, strongly criticized Lee Junseok, leader of the People Power Party, saying he "incites students through division." Regarding the so-called 'discordant speech' by Kim Mingyu, a same-age member of the People Power Party, he said, "The content itself is positive," but also pointed out that it was "plagiarism by directly copying someone else's song lyrics."

In an interview with 'The Fact' on the 9th, Lee described Lee Junseok as "a young man in his 30s caught in self-contradiction."

Earlier, on the 8th, Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, condemning Lee Junseok's remark that "our high school seniors are better than the Democratic Party's high school seniors."

Regarding this, he said in the interview, "(Lee Junseok) is a liar pretending to be sincere," and criticized, "He was someone who spoke about the 'necessity of coexistence' as the most important value when running for party leader, but after taking office, he is inciting division with divisive remarks."

About Kim Mingyu's speech, he said, "I want to applaud his courage and sincerity," but also pointed out, "Directly copying someone else's song lyrics is clear plagiarism. Although it is called an homage, I think it is an inappropriate excuse."

On the 6th, at the launch ceremony of the People Power Party's election campaign committee, Lee Junseok released a video of Kim Mingyu's speech on stage, saying, "They will be superior to the Democratic Party's high school seniors," and added, "Member Kim Mingyu will surely have a day when he writes a candidate's speech and delivers a support speech."

However, Lee Junseok's remarks sparked backlash from the ruling party. On the following day (7th), Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Tanhee wrote on his Facebook, "I can feel the DNA of division in every word," and criticized, "Beyond gender, are high school seniors now being divided into 'our high school seniors' and 'Democratic Party high school seniors'?"

In response, Lee Junseok immediately retorted, "Why is boosting the morale of our high school senior members considered division? If you are confident, lawmaker Lee, you can upload and promote the Democratic Party high school seniors' campaign committee chairperson's speech."

Kim Mingyu's speech, which received applause at the campaign committee launch, also became embroiled in a 'plagiarism controversy.' During his speech, Kim said, "Others mocked us as discordant sounds, but we ultimately proved that it was a wonderful piece of work," which was pointed out to be very similar to the lyrics of 'Discordant Sounds,' a song performed by the singer group Akdong Musician together with Mud The Student.

In response, Kim explained, "The responsible department conducted a prior review regarding plagiarism, and it was confirmed that there is no legal issue."

He also said, "I accept the criticism that the original creators may not want their lyrics to be politicized," but pointed out, "There are people who, without even understanding what homage is, are calling it ghostwriting or malicious plagiarism."
