Ongoing Allegations of Entertainment Industry Work and Plastic Surgery Against Kim Geon-hee
Son Hye-won and Chu Mi-ae Mention Suspicions on SNS
Youth Justice Party: "Isn't the Democratic Party Ashamed of Itself?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Amid allegations regarding the appearance and involvement in entertainment establishments of Kim Geon-hee, wife of Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, some have criticized these claims as unnecessary misogynistic behavior.
Kang Min-jin, leader of the Youth Justice Party, posted on her Facebook on the 11th, directly addressing some ruling party figures who mentioned the so-called 'Julie allegations' and plastic surgery suspicions surrounding Kim.
She criticized former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae and former Democratic Party lawmaker Son Hye-won, who raised these suspicions, saying, "The only thing they talk about during the presidential election period is the sexual past allegations and face evaluations (eol-pyeong) of a female spouse," and added, "Isn't the Democratic Party itself ashamed? Even members of other parties feel embarrassed."
Kang continued, "Former Minister Chu's repeated mentions of 'Julie' and former lawmaker Son's plastic surgery allegations are not only outdated but extremely low-level."
Earlier, on the 8th, former lawmaker Son posted on her Facebook a comparison of Kim's past graduation photo and a recent photo, stating, "I already knew her face had changed, but looking closely, her pupils have become very large," raising suspicions of plastic surgery. Former Minister Chu also posted on her Facebook on the 11th with a photo of Kim, saying, "We demand the truth from Kim. It is not time to hide behind the curtain," referring to allegations of involvement in entertainment establishments.

In response, Choi Ji-hyun, chief deputy spokesperson of the People Power Party Central Election Committee, criticized on the 10th through a statement, saying, "Lee Jae-myung's campaign team and pro-government figures only talk about 'women's policies' but evaluate women's appearances or fabricate lies about 'entertainment hospitality,' making statements close to character assassination."
Choi questioned, "Do the collective sensitivities of Democratic Party female lawmakers, who referred to the sexual violence victims of former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon as 'complainants,' still remain? What a lowly behavior this is," she pointed out.
Lee Soo-jung, professor of criminal psychology at Kyonggi University and co-chair of the People Power Party Joint Election Committee, also mentioned the controversy surrounding Kim during her appearance on YTN Radio's 'Lee Dong-hyung's News Face-off' on the 8th.
Professor Lee said, "Last week, they spent about three days scrutinizing me, then for about four days, there was controversy over the private life of former Democratic Party co-chair Cho Dong-yeon, and yesterday and today, the topic has been Kim. Isn't this too harsh on women? Why is society so harsh on women? Is everyone only interested in our private lives? This is very regrettable to me," she stated.
