Night View of Seoul Seen from the Dongjak Youth Cafe 'THE Hangang' Observation Deck: Fantastic? Multipurpose Observation Deck (Night)

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) announced on the 10th that it has recently completed the construction of a ‘multi-purpose observation deck’ utilizing the entrance slope of Dongjak Youth Cafe’s first branch, ‘THE Hangang’.

Located in a spot where you can see the Hangang River, Namsan, and Bukhansan at a glance, ‘THE Hangang’ has become a local ‘hot place’ through word of mouth, attracting over 10,000 visitors since its opening at the end of September.

In addition, earlier this month, the district expanded infrastructure on the slope in front of ‘THE Hangang,’ which had remained an empty lot, by adding ▲terraced wooden decks (30m vertical, 7.1m horizontal) ▲pole-type lighting ▲handrails for visitors’ convenience.

Now, residents visiting around the youth cafe can enjoy tea, reading, or relaxation on the newly built observation deck. Also, once a small stage is installed, small-scale cultural performances will be available for viewing.

The Bondong area, where ‘THE Hangang’ is located, was selected as an urban regeneration New Deal project site in 2019 and has been carrying out nine pilot projects under the vision of ‘River Hill Bondong, a village embracing the Hangang and history’ until 2022.

As part of the urban regeneration pilot projects, the district also completed this month the maintenance of aging infrastructure for vulnerable pedestrians around the Bondong alleys connected to THE Hangang, including ▲8 old staircases ▲2 pedestrian paths ▲1 old fence.

Through this, ahead of the full winter season, the district has improved steep slopes that had long threatened the safety of local residents and made it possible to visit the youth cafe through the charming ‘Bondong alleys.’

Jongwoo Kim, Director of Strategic Projects, said, “We hope residents visiting THE Hangang and Yongyangbongjeojeong Park will enjoy a cup of tea and the beautiful night view comfortably at the newly created observation deck.”
