[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Yoon Ho-jung, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said regarding the allegations of preferential treatment in real estate development involving Choi, the mother-in-law of Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, "Candidate Yoon must reveal the full extent of the corruption and apologize to the public first."
At the Democratic Party policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly on the 9th, Floor Leader Yoon stated, "Choi, the mother-in-law who manipulated real estate development by leveraging Yoon Seok-yeol (then head of the Yeoju branch prosecutor's office)'s son-in-law status, is no different from Choi (Choi Seo-won, formerly Choi Soon-sil) who manipulated state affairs by leveraging President Park Geun-hye."
He continued, "It has been revealed in the media that during the Yangpyeong development process, land prices were falsely reported to avoid paying any development profit charges, and since 2006, farmland was purchased through false reports via family companies," adding, "This is a clear violation of the law. The prosecution must also devote all efforts to promptly investigating the true nature of Choi's preferential real estate development manipulation."
Regarding Noh Jae-seung, co-chairman of the People Power Party's joint election committee, who was embroiled in controversy over 'belittling' the May 18 Democratic Uprising, he said, "I recall candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, who apologized for defending former President Chun Doo-hwan and was mocked with a 'dog apology' photo."
He also criticized, "Candidate Yoon said Honam is his spiritual hometown, yet he turns a blind eye to the hateful Noh, who openly shoots at his spiritual hometown," adding, "This is not simply about 'protecting Noh Jae-seung.' It is an act of intoxication with approval ratings, packaging hateful remarks under the name of youth, and reaching out to the far right."
Furthermore, regarding the plenary session held that day, he emphasized, "111 bills related to livelihood reform are scheduled to be processed," and added, "Among the three laws for reclaiming unearned real estate income promoted by candidate Lee Jae-myung, the Development Profit Reclamation Act will also be processed early."
Meanwhile, Noh Jae-seung, co-chairman of the People Power Party's joint election committee, who had been embroiled in daily controversies over past remarks distorting the May 18 Gwangju Democratic Uprising and belittling independence activist Kim Gu, resigned on the 9th, just four days after his appointment.
