No Jae-seung Resigns as Co-Chairman of the People Power Party's Joint Election Committee... "I Apologize to Everyone Who Was Hurt"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] No Jae-seung, co-chairman of the People Power Party's presidential campaign committee, who was embroiled in various controversies including the denigration of the May 18 Democratic Uprising and disparaging remarks about Baekbeom Kim Gu, has resigned from his position as co-chairman.

On the 9th, No held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, "Regarding the recent controversy over posts I left on my social media in the past, I should have acknowledged and apologized rather than explained, but my immature heart was not yet able to fully meet the expectations of the people," expressing his intention to resign.

He added, "Regardless of the circumstances and reasons at the time of writing, I sincerely apologize to everyone who was hurt by the harsh sentences I wrote in the past."

He continued, "Although I am stepping down midway for not meeting expectations, please remember that through my appointment without political background, the People Power Party's perspective on young people who live diligently in their respective positions has broadened compared to the past."

He also said, "Returning to the position of a single voter, I will inform people of the sincerity of Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, whom I have observed up close, and become a catalyst for regime change."

After the press conference, when asked by reporters why he changed his stance from "following the party's decision" to deciding to resign, No explained, "I considered whether continuing as co-chairman would truly help candidate Yoon and whether it aligned with the direction of regime change I desire. In a situation where controversies do not subside and continue to arise, maintaining the position while engaging in explanations would be a selfish act for restoring my honor."

Earlier that day, as the controversy spread, the People Power Party canceled No's scheduled broadcast speech on the party platform and policies.
