[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum held an unscheduled emergency COVID-19 prevention ministerial meeting on the 9th and stated, "We will calmly assess the current prevention situation and broadly discuss the necessary measures to swiftly curb the spread."

On the afternoon of the same day, at the Government Seoul Office, with ministers from related prevention departments attending, Prime Minister Kim said, "Although special prevention inspections and strengthened prevention measures are being implemented, the situation is extremely serious as confirmed cases surged to around 7,000 this week."

Prime Minister Kim added, "The government will devote all administrative efforts to ensure there are no gaps in the medical response system, including securing hospital beds and home treatment for patient care, to stabilize the prevention situation." He urged, "In metropolitan local governments where the spread is severe, please elevate prevention management to the highest level and take a more active role in on-site inspections and situation management."

He also appealed to the public, saying, "If the current spread does not subside and continues, we may have to endure greater inconvenience and losses than now," and requested that everyone strictly follow the basic prevention guidelines.
