Lee Jae-myung "Agrees with 100 Trillion Won Claim for COVID-19 Loss Compensation, Let's Devise Funding Plan Immediately"

Emergency Press Conference on Infectious Disease Response Policy on the 9th
Directed at Yoon: "Kim Jong-in's Conditional Compensation Plan for Election Losses, Must Clarify Position"
"Let's Start Discussing COVID Compensation Plan at December Special Session"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 9th, Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed to Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, saying, "I agree with Kim Jong-in, the chairman of the overall election committee's claim of 100 trillion won support for COVID-19 response," and urged, "Let's immediately start discussions between the election committees and candidates on securing funds and concrete support measures."

On that day, Candidate Lee held an emergency press conference on infectious disease response policies at the National Assembly communication office and said, "Candidate Yoon mentioned 50 trillion won support, and Chairman Kim mentioned 100 trillion won support, but even if we add this 100 trillion won, it is still far less compared to the scale of support provided by other countries."

Candidate Lee pointed out, "However, Chairman Kim suddenly withdrew, saying it is not something that the ruling and opposition parties should agree on, and Candidate Yoon says he will support 50 trillion won but only if he is elected."

He questioned, "Will it be difficult after June next year or is it difficult right now?" and criticized, "Why can't the support that will be given if elected be provided now?" He continued, "Support must be provided immediately, not after inauguration," and criticized, "Are they threatening not to do it if it doesn't win votes?"

Candidate Lee told Candidate Yoon, "Don't hide behind Chairman Kim, and boldly state your position on Chairman Kim's conditional loss compensation plan linked to election victory." He also emphasized, "If you empathize with the desperation of small business owners and self-employed people pushed to the brink, I urge you to immediately convene a December extraordinary session of the National Assembly to start substantive discussions."
