According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters on the 9th, this investigation was carried out to raise safety awareness among related parties through strong law enforcement and to prevent large-scale accidents involving hazardous materials in advance, as violations of unauthorized hazardous material storage and handling have continued recently.
The Fire Safety Headquarters and fire stations formed a joint inspection team to focus on cracking down on violations of ordinances regarding the storage and handling of hazardous materials exceeding designated quantities, as well as handling hazardous materials below designated quantities.
Company A was caught storing and handling 22,300 liters of unauthorized hazardous materials at an unapproved location within a construction site.
Company B was caught handling 8,000 liters of hazardous materials without permission from the local fire station.
The two companies that stored or handled hazardous materials exceeding designated quantities without permission were booked on charges of violating the Hazardous Materials Safety Control Act.
The two companies that violated the handling standards for hazardous materials below designated quantities were fined according to the Hazardous Materials Safety Control Ordinance.
In addition, two corrective orders and ten on-site corrections were issued.
