Chinese Foreign Ministry: "Australia's Olympic Boycott, Blind Following of the US"

According to China's Xinhua News Agency and others, spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular briefing that day, "Linking Australia's attendance of officials at the Beijing Olympics to the Xinjiang human rights issue is just an excuse."

Spokesperson Wang said, "China did not invite Australian government officials to the Olympics, so no one cares whether they come or not," adding, "Australian politicians putting on a show for their own interests will have no impact on the success of the Olympics."

He stated, "It reveals that they are blindly following individual countries," and "China expresses strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to Australia's actions and has already lodged a stern representation with Australia."
