[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] A trial was held regarding the controversy over the error in the 2022 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) Science Inquiry Area Biology II question.
The Administrative 6th Division of the Seoul Administrative Court (Presiding Judge Lee Ju-young) held a hearing on the 8th for the injunction application filed by 92 Biology II test takers and their parents against the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation.
The closed hearing began around 3:10 PM and lasted about an hour. Approximately 30 students and parents listed as applicants visited the courtroom to observe.
Shin Dong-wook (18), who attended the hearing, told reporters after the session, "I did not realize the question was erroneous and kept calculating, spending over 10 minutes on one question, and as a result, I had to guess on three questions. This situation is very unfair."
The applicants' representative also explained, "Students were taught to exclude answers if the number of individuals was negative. This logic also appeared in the 2015 CSAT questions. Students could not solve the problem because there was no correct answer."
Earlier, examinees filed a main lawsuit on the 2nd to cancel the answer decision by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, claiming an error in question 20 of Biology II, and also applied for an injunction.
However, the Institute concluded on the 29th of last month that there was "no issue" with the question, stating, "Even if the conditions of this question are not complete, its validity as an evaluation question to distinguish academic achievement levels is maintained."
