[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] A man in his 50s who was sentenced to prison for harassing a restaurant owner at a traditional market in Gwangju was caught by the police after threatening the victim again following his release.
On the 8th, the Dongbu Police Station in Gwangju announced that they had applied for an arrest warrant for a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on charges of intimidation (retaliatory intimidation under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes) for threatening the restaurant owner who reported him to the police.
Mr. A is accused of obstructing business and threatening restaurant owner Mr. B at a traditional market in Dong-gu, Gwangju, around 9 a.m. the previous day.
Last September, Mr. A was found guilty of retaliatory assault and obstruction of business for repeatedly causing trouble to restaurant owners at the same traditional market and served one year in prison.
After being released the previous day, Mr. A immediately returned to Mr. B’s restaurant, drank alcohol at the table, and caused a disturbance, saying, "I was sentenced to prison because of you."
Mr. B reported the incident to the police, leading to Mr. A’s immediate arrest on the spot.
Earlier, as Mr. A’s release approached in October, the police provided Mr. B with a smartwatch to prevent recidivism and protect the victim’s safety.
When Mr. A came back and caused trouble, Mr. B promptly contacted the detective in charge, and the police immediately arrested Mr. A on the spot.
