Dankook University Lowers Interview Ratio in Pharmacy Transfer Admissions, Changing 8 Successful Candidates

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Dankook University applied different score reflection ratios for each selection element in the pharmacy transfer admission process than those stated in the recruitment guidelines, resulting in changes to the acceptance status of 8 applicants.

According to the comprehensive audit results of Dankook University disclosed by the Ministry of Education on the 8th, the score reflection ratios for each selection element in the pharmacy transfer admission were altered, leading to disciplinary actions against 8 individuals. During this process, the acceptance and rejection statuses of 8 applicants were reversed.

Dankook University announced in the pharmacy transfer admission recruitment guidelines that the score reflection ratios for each selection element were 80% for the first stage PEET, official English test, and previous university grades, and 20% for the second stage (interview).

However, during the 2019 transfer admission process, Dankook University changed the first stage ratio from 80% to 88.89%, and the second stage from 20% to 11.11%. Among the 25 selected candidates, 6 did not register, and 8 applicants including Applicant A, who was ranked 29th and would have been accepted if the criteria had not changed, were rejected. Meanwhile, Applicant B, ranked 37th and originally rejected, was accepted.

The Ministry of Education notified that "Dankook University must prepare remedial measures for the 8 applicants who were rejected in relation to the pharmacy transfer admissions for the 2019-2020 academic years."

Dankook University also received disciplinary actions against 10 individuals after it was revealed that in the process of public works and service contracts, the university signed private contracts with two companies for facility construction projects exceeding 200 million KRW in estimated price, and announced general competitive bidding projects as designated competitive bidding, contracting with four companies.

It was also found that in the document screening for hiring regular nurses, applicants were divided into four grades based on their alma mater and given scores ranging from 13 to 20 points. The Ministry of Education ordered disciplinary actions against two related persons.

Additionally, three professors who concurrently served as outside directors of companies without the president’s approval were subject to disciplinary measures. Among them, two professors were found to have held concurrent positions despite being notified that approval was impossible.

At Dankook University College of Medicine Affiliated Hospital, 24 professors used 63 million KRW of medical department operating funds at golf courses without work-related evidence, attaching only corporate card statements, yet the entire amount was expended as operating expenses.

The medical department operating funds restrict the use of costs that benefit specific individuals, such as academy tuition fees and golf practice ranges, and specify that even for common purposes, expenditures at socially inappropriate places such as entertainment bars (room salons) and golf courses should be avoided.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education notified that the amount spent without work-related evidence should be recorded as revenue in the affiliated hospital’s accounts and issued warnings to the 24 related individuals.
