Gokseong-gun Launches Elderly Human Rights Guardians

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jongseon] Jeonnam Gokseong-gun (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced that human rights guardians have begun activities to protect the human rights of elderly people using elderly medical welfare facilities.

On the 8th, a launching ceremony for elderly human rights guardians was held at the Gokseong-gun Darimdol Support Center to protect the rights of users of elderly medical welfare facilities and prevent abuse. At the ceremony, appointment certificates and honorary elderly welfare instructor certificates were awarded to seven human rights guardians. In addition, pre-activity training on elderly abuse prevention and human rights was conducted.

Previously, Gokseong-gun accepted applications for human rights guardians from five facilities with a high risk of human rights violations that wished to participate. The seven final selected human rights guardian activists consist of local resident representatives, religious figures, and social workers. The human rights guardian activity period is until November next year, during which they will visit their assigned facilities at least once a month to monitor the facilities through interviews with resident elderly and staff, and carry out elderly abuse prevention activities.

Human rights guardian A said, “I have always been interested in the field of elderly welfare. Through human rights guardian activities, I will strive to improve welfare services for the elderly and prevent abuse.”
