Do You Know Natural Air Purifiers... Gimhae City to Create 'Fine Dust Blocking Forest' Next Year

Planted 150,000 Ippop Trees and Metasequoias

Created Complex Spaces and Walking Trails in Juchon-myeon and Yulha 2 District

Do You Know Natural Air Purifiers... Gimhae City to Create 'Fine Dust Blocking Forest' Next Year Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, plans to create a fine dust blocking forest in the Juchon and Yulha areas by May next year.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, will create a fine dust blocking forest with 150,000 trees in the Juchon and Yulha areas in the first half of next year.

The city was selected as the target site for the Korea Forest Service's fine dust blocking forest project worth 2 billion KRW and will plant 150,000 trees such as Ipap trees and Metasequoia in Juchon-myeon and Yulha 2 District by May next year.

The fine dust blocking forest is known as the urban fine dust solution due to its strong fine dust blocking effect.

It is established between sources of fine dust such as industrial complexes, waste treatment plants, and thermal power plants, and residential areas to prevent fine dust from entering living areas.

The fresh air emitted by the trees circulates with the polluted air in the city, reducing and dispersing fine dust, thus functioning as an air purifier.

The city plans to create a forest centered around the natural monument No. 307, the Cheongok-ri Ipap tree, at Juchon Square on National Road No. 14, Dongseo-daero, to be used as a space for rest, sports, and events.

In the Yulha area, a Metasequoia forest path connecting Tteulcheon and Yulhacheon in Yulha 2 District will be created to form a waterside walking trail leading from Yulha 2 District to Jangyu Nuri-gil.

The city held an advisory committee meeting by gathering the ‘Green Gimhae Public Landscape Architects Group’ and the ‘Urban Forest Creation and Management Deliberation Committee,’ which are urban greening advisory bodies, to discuss opinions on the forest creation project.

Lee Byung-gwan, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “Not only will it have a fine dust blocking effect, but it will also create a pleasant space to comfort bodies and minds exhausted by COVID-19.”
