Mujugun, Progress on Local Issues Including Construction of County Nursing Hospital

Secured 1.9 Billion KRW in Special Grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety

Mujugun, Progress on Local Issues Including Construction of County Nursing Hospital

[Muju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Muju County announced on the 8th that it has secured 1.9 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for the second half of the year, accelerating the promotion of local projects such as the Muju County Nursing Hospital.

The special grants secured this time include 1 billion KRW for the construction of the Muju County Nursing Hospital and 900 million KRW for the installation of an access bridge to Dondang Village in Anseong-myeon.

The construction of the Muju County Nursing Hospital comes amid an increasing elderly population each year, with a continuous rise expected in the proportion of dementia patients. However, comprehensive hospitals and nursing hospitals have not been established in neighboring areas, resulting in insufficient provision of appropriate medical services for the elderly.

In particular, despite the increasing demand for specialized dementia treatment and rehabilitation services, the current poor medical infrastructure raises concerns about the emergence of blind spots in specialized medical services for the elderly.

However, with the government grant secured this time, the establishment of a county nursing hospital including a specialized dementia ward will gain momentum, laying the foundation to provide specialized treatment and rehabilitation services for the elderly and is expected to resolve medical blind spots.

The county nursing hospital to be built in the Dangsan-ri area of Muju-eup will have a capacity of 126 beds (1 basement floor, 3 above-ground floors) and is planned to be completed in 2023.

Additionally, the access bridge installation project for Dondang Village addresses the issue where residents of three villages in Gongjeong-ri, Anseong-myeon, currently pass through the narrow and winding roads of Dondang Village, causing traffic accident risks and inconvenience for large vehicles such as buses.

With the county securing the special grants, it has become possible to build a new bridge and expand connecting roads that allow direct access from the Anseong-myeon area to Dondang, Naedang, and Oedang villages, thereby enhancing residents' safety and preventing accidents in advance.

County Governor Hwang In-hong stated, “Despite the poor local financial conditions, we will concentrate all our efforts on securing local grants and national and provincial funds to realize ‘Muju-like Muju, happy citizens’ by resolving residents’ welfare and safety concerns.”
