[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] The Bukbu Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chief Kim Hee-chul) announced on the 8th a request for the safe installation and use of wood-burning stoves and boilers during the winter season.
According to the Bukbu Fire Station, a fire occurred around 4 p.m. on the 5th in a single-family house in Jungheung-dong, Buk-gu, where the wooden ceiling structure adjacent to the chimney pipe of the wood-burning stove was exposed to heat for a long time.
Fortunately, the fire was extinguished with only partial damage to the ceiling due to the prompt report by the resident. However, since the chimney pipe of the wood-burning stove was installed close to the wooden ceiling structure and caused the fire, special caution is urged for safe installation and use.
Fire prevention rules for wood-burning stoves and boilers include ▲ using non-combustible materials where the building contacts the chimney pipe ▲ removing flammable materials around the stove ▲ regularly cleaning to prevent residue buildup inside the chimney pipe ▲ placing a fire extinguisher nearby ▲ using only designated fuels.
Kang Wang-gu, Director of the Prevention and Safety Division, stated, "We hope everyone will participate in winter fire prevention by conducting careful inspections and using wood-burning stoves and boilers safely during the winter season."
