The Cultural Heritage Administration's National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (Director Ji Byeongmok) announced on the 8th that it has produced the first multimedia tactile book titled "Stories of Wise Prehistoric People to Read with Fingertips and Convey through Sound." This book introduces the field of archaeology, which is usually difficult to access, in braille and audio for the visually impaired, those with partial blindness, low vision, children, and the elderly. It explains sites and artifacts by incorporating detailed illustrations, audio commentary, and sounds to help understand the culture of Korea's Paleolithic era.
The book is composed of three parts: "Story One," which introduces Paleolithic people who began using fire and tools; "Story Two," which focuses on excavation sites such as the Gongju Seokjang-ri site and various artifacts like chipped stone tools and hand axes; and "Story Three," which presents the remaining stories in a question-and-answer format.
Singer and actor Lee Junho, actor Cha Taehyun, singer Kai (EXO), MBC announcers Heo Ilhu and Kim Chorong, along with five members of the general public, participated directly in the recording. Additionally, Kim Yeji, a visually impaired pianist and member of the National Assembly (People Power Party), recorded a congratulatory message expressing her hope that many visually impaired people will be able to experience the birth and development of humanity, as well as the lives of our ancestors embodied in the sites and artifacts, through this book.
