[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The movie Clifford the Big Red Dog will warmly fill theaters on the 29th.

Clifford the Big Red Dog is a film that promises a magical adventure between Clifford, a super-sized dog unlike anything seen before, and 12-year-old girl Emily. It is based on a bestselling book series that has been loved for the past 58 years, with over 126 million copies sold worldwide.

The movie is directed by Walt Becker, known for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, and completed through the collaboration of Hollywood’s top staff, including the screenwriters of the Smurfs series and the production team behind the Marvel series.

The original Clifford, who grows bigger the more he is loved, and 12-year-old Emily meet as if by fate, unfolding a magical adventure in Clifford the Big Red Dog. Clifford has been a positive and kind character who has stayed by children’s sides for a long time. Producer Jordan Kerner, who fell in love with Clifford, has shown great interest in adapting Clifford into a movie for over 20 years.

He devoted great effort to recruiting the production team, bringing on board screenwriters Jay Scherick and David Ronn, who had already successfully collaborated on The Smurfs 1 and 2, director Walt Becker, known for effectively bringing animal characters to life in live-action films such as Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Zoo Keeper, and the Marvel series production team behind The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man 2, and Doctor Strange.

The production team gathered for Clifford the Big Red Dog focused on capturing the original story’s message, emphasizing the unconditional love between Emily and Clifford and the preciousness of that bond during filming.

Screenwriter David Ronn said, “As the original story importantly addresses, the core of this movie is the relationship between Emily and Clifford,” and added that they aimed to capture the special bond between the two in the story.

Director Walt Becker stated, “The unpretentious love between humans and their pets is a wonderful, magical power,” and explained that there is a special magical bond between Emily and Clifford, which they tried to portray on screen.

He added, “Emily, empowered by Clifford’s unconditional love, comes to believe that she can bring change to the world. Through such scenes, I hope young viewers realize the strong power within themselves.”
