[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] LG Display and Yonsei University are establishing Korea's first employment-linked display contract department. This collaboration between industry and academia aims to nurture convergence talents in the next-generation display field, offering incoming students exceptional support such as full tuition coverage and guaranteed employment.

On the 8th, LG Display announced that it signed an agreement with Yonsei University at Yonsei University's Sinchon Campus to establish the 'Department of Display Convergence Engineering.' Attending the signing ceremony held the previous day were LG Display President Jeong Ho-young, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Vice President Yoon Soo-young, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO) Executive Director Song Sang-ho, Yonsei University President Seo Seung-hwan, Dean of the College of Engineering Myung Jae-min, and Dean of Academic Affairs Sung Tae-yoon.

Through this agreement, LG Display and Yonsei University will establish the 'Department of Display Convergence Engineering' within the College of Engineering starting from the 2023 academic year, recruiting 30 new students. The newly established department will offer a specialized curriculum covering all technical areas related to the display industry, including electronics, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, and materials, aiming to systematically and professionally cultivate next-generation display talents.

LG Display will provide exceptional benefits to students admitted to this department. Current students will receive full support for tuition and dormitory fees, and additional tuition subsidies will be provided upon meeting basic requirements. Employment at LG Display after graduation will be 100% guaranteed, provided there are no disqualifying reasons.

LG Display expects that the establishment of the display contract department will enable the company to more systematically secure core talents necessary to strengthen competitiveness in next-generation display businesses, including OLED.

Following the agreement to establish the employment-linked contract department, LG Display and Yonsei University will also discuss additional cooperation plans to nurture master's and doctoral-level experts in the display field.

President Jeong Ho-young stated, "The display industry must create new markets not only through next-generation technological innovation but also through collaboration with various industrial sectors such as transportation and architecture beyond existing home appliances and IT. The newly established Department of Display Convergence Engineering will be an important program to systematically nurture future core talents for this purpose."

President Seo Seung-hwan emphasized, "I believe the Department of Display Convergence Engineering is where Yonsei University's educational and research capabilities meet LG Display's innovation capabilities. We will spare no effort to support the excellent talents produced through this cooperation to grow into core talents."
