[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ‘Gyeonggi-do Yeoju Ferrum Golf Course’.
It is the best tournament course chosen by Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour players for the 2021 season. In a vote conducted among players participating in this year’s tournament to select the ‘best course,’ Ferrum Golf Course ranked first with 25.8% of the votes. The 2020 and 2021 KPGA Korean Tour Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Choi Kyung-ju Invitational (total prize money 1 billion KRW) was held at Ferrum Golf Course’s East-West Course (par 72, 7,219 yards). The winner was Ham Jeong-woo (27, Hana Financial Group).
Players evaluated, “The course condition is excellent,” adding, “The green speed, fairway, and rough length are also suitable for a tournament course.” They continued, “The driving range, practice greens, and other facilities for improving players’ performance are perfectly established,” and “Thanks to this, we were able to fully demonstrate our skills during the competition.” Ferrum Golf Course gained recognition as a fierce battleground for the 2015 Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour major KLPGA Championship.
It also earned a reputation as a tournament course by hosting the 2018 KLPGA Tour ADT Caps Championship and the 2019 Kyochon Honey Ladies Open. Ferrum (FERRUM) means iron in Latin. It is an eco-friendly course that preserves nature such as dense pine forests and basin valley terrain. It is designed to allow the use of all clubs, and six beautiful ponds stand out. The grand clubhouse designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando is impressive.
Jeju Island Seogwipo Pinx Golf Course, where the SK Telecom Open was held, received 21% support and ranked second. It is a course located between Hallasan and Sanbangsan Mountains. From every hole, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Jeju. It is covered with bentgrass, allowing players to experience green fairways and roughs even in the middle of winter. The course harmoniously balances uphill and downhill slopes. Incheon Bears Best Cheongna Golf Course, where the Shinhan Donghae Open and Hana Bank Invitational were held, ranked third with 16.1%.
