On the 7th, the Cultural Heritage Administration held an awards ceremony for outstanding cases of cultural heritage signboard improvements at Hotel ICC in Daejeon, presenting the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Awards to Iksan City and Ryu Ji-hwan, a curator from Yeongju City. They were recognized for transforming difficult-to-understand cultural heritage signboards into ones that are easy to comprehend and engaging. Iksan City operated a citizen advisory group to incorporate diverse opinions into the signboards. Visual materials such as photos and diagrams were also effectively utilized. Curator Ryu persuaded cultural heritage owners to install forty-nine signboards. The Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner’s Awards were given to three places: Gyeongsangbuk-do, Hanam City, and Gimhae City, as well as to three officials: Yeon Gyu-jin from Daejeon City, Kim Dong-hyun from Nonsan City, and Jang Yoon-jung from Andong City, and to the Cultural Heritage Kkaturi club of Andong Affiliated Elementary School of Daegu National University of Education. Meanwhile, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that through this year’s cultural heritage signboard improvement project, about 1,200 signboards installed at 750 cultural heritage sites nationwide were improved.
