[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Past remarks by Noh Jae-seung, co-chairman of the People Power Party's joint election campaign committee, have been causing controversy day after day. Following his claims regarding the '5.18 Democratization Movement Special Act' and 'abolition of regular employment,' it has been confirmed that he recently shared posts belittling poor people.
In May, Noh shared a YouTube video titled "The Truth of 5.18" on his Facebook, writing, "The number one sanctification of the Republic of Korea. That movement which even passed a special law to block any discussion. What on earth are they trying to hide?"
In June, he also said, "As an advocate for abolishing regular employment, I sometimes think about what it would be like if the president adopted the slogan 'Opening the era of zero regular employment.'"
In response, Kim Woo-young, spokesperson for the Democratic Party's election campaign committee, said, "The 30-something Mr. Noh has spewed all kinds of hateful remarks, incited discrimination, and expressed distorted historical views on social media," adding, "Noh's outrageous remarks closely resemble Yoon Seok-yeol candidate's 'one outrageous remark a day.' He denied the 5.18 incident and advocated for a zero regular employment era."
He continued, "The profiles of recruited figures reveal Yoon Seok-yeol candidate's true colors. His social media activities are comparable to Ilbe."
On the 5th of last month, he shared a post belittling poverty. The post stated, "I really hate people who were born poor and flaunt it. Being poor leaves many grudges. But they exploit that. It's truly petty."
It continued, "I hope they receive proper education. Otherwise, they have many complexes here and there," and "They boast about passing the GED and so on. It only insults those who have followed the normal steps."
Additionally, the author claimed, "I hope they were educated under proper parents. Otherwise, they glorify the Jirisan partisans as national merit recipients."
Although the post appears to target Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, it is expected to spark controversy as it divides normal and abnormal people and belittles the poor.
Meanwhile, the People Power Party appointed Noh as co-chairman of the election campaign committee on the 5th.
