[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The YouTube channel 'Garosero Research Institute (Gaseyeon)' has filed a complaint with the police, requesting the identification and punishment of the person who sexually assaulted former Democratic Party co-chairperson Jo Dong-yeon.

On the 7th, Gaseyeon announced that it had reported an unidentified perpetrator to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency for the crime of sexual assault by abuse of authority in the workplace under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

Gaseyeon presented former co-chairperson Jo's statement from the 5th, which revealed the sexual assault, as evidence. Gaseyeon claimed, "Based on the statement, the perpetrator is presumed to be a superior in the military, and since the assault was described as horrific sexual violence, it seems reasonable to establish the crime of sexual assault by abuse of authority even if there was no physical violence or threats."

They added, "According to the Sexual Violence Punishment Act in effect at the time of the perpetrator's actions, sexual assault by abuse of authority in the workplace is not a crime requiring a victim's complaint, and under the current Sexual Violence Punishment Act, any third party can report sexual crimes without the victim's complaint."

Regarding the statute of limitations, they stated, "The victim has indicated that there is objective evidence against the perpetrator, which qualifies for the extension of the statute of limitations under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act."

Former co-chairperson Jo was appointed as the Democratic Party's co-chairperson on the 29th of last month but voluntarily resigned on the 3rd of this month after Gaseyeon raised personal life controversies.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has filed a complaint with the prosecution against Gaseyeon for defamation and other charges under the Information and Communications Network Act.
