[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 7th that it will fully implement the '2021 Winter Comprehensive Measures' to prepare for the resurgence of COVID-19 and natural disasters such as heavy snow and cold waves.
The county will focus on four areas in its winter comprehensive measures: disaster and epidemic prevention, fire and forest fire safety accident prevention, protection of socially vulnerable groups, and stabilization of residents' lives.
First, to prevent winter disasters such as heavy snow, a Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters consisting of 13 cooperative teams has been formed. In the event of heavy snow, snow removal operations will be carried out on 27 routes covering 298 km of roads by mobilizing 19 personnel in 4 teams.
In addition, to prevent fires and forest fires that are likely to occur in winter, a Forest Fire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters has been operating since last November until May next year. Joint inspections will be conducted on 21 gas and electric facilities such as charging stations and multi-use facilities to ensure the safety of residents.
Furthermore, as indoor activities increase due to dropping temperatures, a 24-hour emergency communication system will be maintained by operating a COVID-19 Comprehensive Situation Room and an Emergency Countermeasure Situation Room, continuously strengthening the response system to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The county has formed a Welfare Blind Spot Discovery Task Force to protect socially vulnerable groups so that no residents are left out in the cold weather. It will strengthen the linkage of public, social services, and private resources for crisis households and organize and operate a dedicated field activity team to enhance on-site efforts.
Moreover, to minimize residents' inconvenience during winter and ensure a warm winter, a rapid repair team for frozen water facilities and an emergency water supply team have been organized. Measures for local price stabilization, including safe management of local public utility fees and management of essential daily goods, have also been prepared.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, "We will do our best to ensure that residents can spend a safe and warm winter through thorough preemptive measures against winter emergencies."
