A man in his 50s who suddenly disappeared after announcing his leaving work was found as skeletal remains in a reservoir near the company after 7 years

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] A man in his 50s who went missing after contacting his wife to say he was leaving work seven years ago was found as skeletal remains in a reservoir near his company.

According to the Haman Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 7th, at around 3:40 p.m. on the 6th, a worker performing water drainage work at an industrial reservoir inside a factory in Gunbuk-myeon, Haman, noticed a car tire floating in the reservoir during a break and reported it to the police.

The vehicle was revealed due to the water level dropping recently because of drought.

After lifting the vehicle using a large crane and comparing the license plate with the ID found on the body, the identity of Mr. A (50 years old at the time of disappearance) was confirmed.

Mr. A suddenly disappeared after calling his wife at 7:57 p.m. on July 24, 2014, to inform her that he was leaving work.

At that time, the police conducted a large-scale search, including checking nearby road CCTV and deploying a helicopter, after receiving a missing person report from the wife who said her husband did not return, but no clues were found.

The police stated that after investigating the CCTV around the company, it was found that Mr. A left through the company’s main gate and then re-entered near the reservoir through the opposite entrance.

Based on the family's statements, the police believe there is a high possibility of suicide and plan to investigate the cause of death through an autopsy.

A police official said, "Since the reservoir’s water level is usually maintained at a certain level, it seems the body was not discovered for a long time," adding, "So far, there is no evidence of criminal suspicion."
