National Geographic Information Institute Holds Inaugural Ceremony for National Land Satellite and Digital Twin Land

The National Geographic Information Institute announced on the 7th that it held a declaration ceremony for the inaugural year of the National Land Satellite and Digital Twin Land, as well as a commemorative seminar, at the auditorium of the National Geographic Information Institute Map Museum in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, marking the 2nd anniversary of the opening of the National Land Satellite Center.


About 60 people attended the event, including Kim Su-sang, Director of the Housing and Land Office at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Sagong Ho-sang, Director of the National Geographic Information Institute, Song Seok-jun and Jo Myung-hee, members of the People Power Party, and Kang Hyun-soo, President of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements.


The National Geographic Information Institute is building spatial information infrastructure such as 3D spatial information, precision road maps for autonomous vehicles, and aerial orthophoto imaging to realize Digital Twin Land, one of the 10 representative projects of the Korean New Deal.


In his commemorative speech, Kim Su-sang, Director of the Housing and Land Office, said, "The role of the National Geographic Information Institute is important as a central institution realizing Digital Twin Land through efficient land use and timely response to disasters using national land satellites, 3D spatial information, and precision road maps."


In the afternoon, a seminar was held on the themes of ▲ the dawn of the national land satellite era and ▲ digital twin land data strategy. The seminar included expert presentations and discussions attended by government officials, local governments, academia, and the media.


Sagong Ho-sang, Director of the National Geographic Information Institute, emphasized in his opening remarks and greeting, "Digital twin is no longer a story of the distant future but a real technology being implemented right beside us in this era," and added, "We plan to further strengthen the development of utilization models to support public sector tasks such as national land status thematic maps."
