CU Applies 'Blockchain Access Authentication Technology' to Hybrid Convenience Stores

CU Applies 'Blockchain Access Authentication Technology' to Hybrid Convenience Stores On the 7th, CU will become the first in the industry to commercialize blockchain access security technology to advance the operation of hybrid convenience stores.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] CU announced on the 7th that it will be the first in the industry to commercialize blockchain access security technology to advance the operation of hybrid convenience stores.

The CU hybrid convenience stores applying blockchain access authentication technology include a total of 10 locations in the Busan area: Donga Daehanrim Saenghwal-gwan Branch, Pukyong National University Miraegwan Branch, Kyungsung University Geonhakgwan Branch, and E Ocean Blue Rest Area Gadeok Branch. This is part of a government project related to unmanned store access conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.

The blockchain integrated service ‘B PASS’ allows customers to authenticate themselves by scanning a QR code received on their mobile device at a designated location’s reader. To introduce B PASS, BGF Retail began system integration last month through consultations with related organizations including Busan City. Rapid implementation was possible through the recently developed access authentication kiosk, the door lock kit, and security was enhanced by adding blockchain decentralized identity verification technology from NICE Information & Telecommunication and Coinplug.

CU expects that by expanding access methods with blockchain solutions, it will further strengthen customer accessibility to hybrid convenience stores and significantly contribute to the localization of related technologies and the expansion of unmanned store infrastructure.

A BGF Retail official said, “CU has been participating in various demonstration projects for the advancement of domestic retail tech by utilizing its systematic unmanned store operation capabilities and know-how. We will continue diverse efforts to successfully lead national projects conducted jointly by the public and private sectors to enhance customer convenience and revitalize the domestic unmanned industry.”
