Next Year’s Planned Exhibition ‘Trends in Korean Color Painting’ to Be Jointly Hosted by Jinju City and National Jinju Museum

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 6th that on the 3rd, Mayor Jo Gyu-il of Jinju met with Min Byeong-chan, Director of the National Museum of Korea, to discuss matters related to the relocation of the National Jinju Museum.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Jo Gyu-il of Jinju, Min Byeong-chan, Director of the National Museum of Korea, and Jang Sang-hoon, Director of the National Jinju Museum.
Mayor Jo stated, “The relocation of the National Jinju Museum is an important project as part of the redevelopment of the old Jinju Station railway site, aiming to utilize the area as a major cultural and artistic platform to develop it into a cultural and artistic hub of Jinju. After the museum relocation, we hope for active support to attract national cultural facilities so that our region can become the cultural center of the southern area.”
In response, Director Min said, “The National Jinju Museum, as the first national museum in Gyeongnam Province, will be promoted as the center of Gyeongnam’s history and culture, establishing the best content and a smart museum, a cultural space of coexistence and cooperation, and an experiential museum where visitors actively participate. The current museum building is structured more like an art gallery than a museum, so it might be better utilized as a national public art gallery,” expressing his opinion.
In particular, the meeting also included discussions regarding the loan of artworks for the exhibition on the flow of Korean color painting.
Mayor Jo proposed, “To create a foundation for attracting national cultural facilities and through cooperation with national public art galleries to introduce various contemporary art, we plan to hold a planned exhibition titled ‘The Flow of Korean Color Painting’ around March next year, and we request the National Museum of Korea’s active support in loaning collections.”
Director Min responded, “We will strive to hold this planned exhibition jointly with Jinju City and the National Jinju Museum to provide Gyeongnam Province and Jinju citizens with opportunities to enjoy diverse exhibition content and cultural experiences.”
Meanwhile, the National Jinju Museum plans to secure a budget of 300 million KRW for an international design competition to achieve a modern and innovative design and will hold an international design competition.
